The DON’T DIS-MY-ABILITY COMEDY SHOW is the only comedy show with an all disabled comedian lineup! Shows will sometimes have only one disabled comedian but I wanted to create a show that celebrates, honors, and acknowledges those of us with disabilities in a hilarious way. Often times disabled people are avoided, ignored, silenced, and sometimes are not included in things. The show includes comedians with different disabilities such as those in a wheelchair, blind, mental/psychiatric illness, deaf, missing limbs, physical disabilities, neurological, speech impediments and all the wonderful disabilities that make us who we are. I created the show because I wanted those of us with disabilities to tell our funny stories without feeling shame and for us with disabilities to be proud of ourselves and our differences. All too often the word disability has been made to be a “bad” word and I created the comedy show to help “normalize disability” and for us to speak up. Disabled people are so dehumanized, and we forget that disabled people also want to have fun, go out, drink, party, laugh, and be naughty just like all the other “normal” people. I want to show the world that disabled people are fun!
